Organic Spike Bud Tea is the rarest pick of our organic range: only the single bud at the tip of each shoot, picked by hand before its first leaf opens, from old Shan tea trees growing above 1,000 metres in the mountains of northern Vietnam. In Vietnam this style is called dinh tra, "nail tea", after the straight, slender shape of the buds.
Spike bud leaf and cup
The buds are dried whole and straight, silver-green and covered in fine white down. They brew a clear, bright golden liquor with a fresh, delicate aroma and a smooth, sweet taste with no bitterness. In the cup the buds open plump and whole.

What is spike bud tea? Tea made only from the unopened bud at the tip of each shoot, with no leaf. Every bud is picked by hand before it opens, so a kilo takes far more picking than leaf tea; that is why it is the most expensive tea of our organic range. In Vietnam it is called dinh tra, "nail tea", after the straight shape of the buds.
How is it different from Organic Snow Shan Premium? Organic Snow Shan Premium is one bud and one young leaf, rolled into curls. Spike Bud Tea is the bud alone, kept straight and whole, for a lighter, sweeter and more delicate cup. See all our grades in the organic tea range.
Is it certified organic for the EU or the US? No. The garden is farmed to Vietnam's national organic standard (TCVN 11041-6:2018); the tea does not hold EU or USDA organic certification, so it cannot be labelled organic in those markets. Each shipment can be tested by an independent laboratory.
What is the minimum order? Organic Snow Shan is a small-harvest tea, supplied in smaller lots than our standard grades. Tell us the grade and the volume you need and we will confirm availability and lead time.
What payment terms do you accept? Flexible terms: T/T, L/C or a combination of the two, agreed for each order and written into the proforma invoice. Payment goes only to the company account of Goo Farm Tea Vietnam Company Limited, never to a personal account.
How is Organic Spike Bud Tea packed? In vacuum aluminium bags in export cartons, or in private-label retail packs such as tins, boxes and zip bags. Ask for a sample before you order.
