About Vietnamese green tea grades
Vietnamese green tea is made without oxidation: the fresh leaf is heated soon after plucking, then rolled, dried and sorted into grades by leaf size. The grade tells you how the tea will look, how it will brew and how much of it fits in a container, so it is the first thing to settle before you ask for a quotation.
We supply thirteen green tea grades. Whole-leaf grades such as OP, OPA, Pekoe, Bom and Madina are chosen for loose-leaf tea and premium bags. Broken grades such as Broken, PS and BPS brew faster and suit standard tea bags and blends. Fannings and powder dust give the strongest, quickest cup for tea bags and extracts. We also offer Snow Shan green tea from old high-mountain tea trees and stalk grades.
Our guide to Vietnamese green tea grades explains how green tea is sorted, how each grade differs in leaf, liquor and taste, how the grade changes your freight cost and how to choose the right one. Scented green teas such as jasmine are listed under flavor tea.
Our BOM green tea guide covers the Bom grade in detail: the leaf, the liquor and how to buy it in bulk.
Frequently asked questions
How is Vietnamese green tea made? Without oxidation: the fresh leaf is heated soon after plucking, then rolled, dried and sorted into grades by leaf size. That keeps the leaf green and gives a fresh, vegetal cup.
Which green tea grade is best for tea bags? Broken grades such as Broken, PS and BPS, fannings and powder dust brew fastest and suit tea bags and extracts. Whole-leaf OP, OPA, Pekoe, Bom and Madina are chosen for loose-leaf tea and premium bags.
How much green tea fits in a 40HC container? From about 14 tons of whole-leaf Bom or OPA to 28 tons of dust; broken grades such as PS and BPS load about 22 to 23 tons.
What is the minimum order? There is no minimum order; the price depends on the quantity, and you can combine several grades in one 20ft or 40HC container. Samples with a specification sheet are available before you order, and every shipment must be the same as or better than the sample you approved.
