Eurofins test report: our green tea sample meets EU MRLs

Eurofins test report on Goo Farm green tea: page 1 shown in full, the following pages blurred and locked

Our latest Eurofins test report, No. AR-26-VD-278415-01, was approved on 17 October 2026 by Eurofins Sac Ky Hai Dang for a sample of our green tea. The laboratory screened the sample for more than 900 pesticides, metabolites and residue sums, and printed the EU maximum residue level (MRL) for tea next to each residue it found. Its conclusion, on page 1 of the report:

The pesticide results of the above mentioned analyses are in accordance with the requirements of regulation (EC) 396/2005 (regulation on maximum residue levels of pesticides in or on food and feed) (Nº SANTE/11312/2021) in its currently valid version.

Results against EU MRLs for tea

Three of the screened pesticides were found in the sample, each within its EU limit. Every other pesticide on the list was not detected.

ResidueResult (mg/kg)EU MRL for tea (mg/kg)
Chlorfenapyr0.08450
Clothianidin0.0340.05
Imidaclopridtrace, below 0.010.05
Other screened pesticides (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS)not detected

All three results carry the laboratory's (a) mark, which means they fall under its ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Clothianidin and imidacloprid are neonicotinoid insecticides, a group for which the EU has been tightening its limits: Regulation (EU) 2023/334 lowered the MRLs for clothianidin and thiamethoxam on a long list of foods from 7 March 2026. The report applies the regulation "in its currently valid version", so the limits in the table are the ones in force in October 2026. Imidacloprid was present only as a trace, below the 0.01 mg/kg quantitation limit.

What "in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 396/2005" means

Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 is the EU law on pesticide residues. It sets a maximum residue level for each pesticide on each food or feed sold in the EU, and tea has its own entries.

  • One limit per pesticide and product. The tea limits apply to dried tea, the same form the laboratory tested. A pesticide with no specific limit for tea falls under the default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg.
  • Limits differ widely. The three limits in this report run from 0.05 to 50 mg/kg. Some MRLs come from residue trials and a consumer risk assessment; others, such as clothianidin's 0.05 mg/kg for tea, sit at the lowest level laboratories can reliably measure.
  • Traces count as found. Eurofins reports "Traces" when a residue is at or above the limit of detection (LOD) but below the limit of quantitation (LOQ): it is there, but too little to measure precisely.
  • Method quality. SANTE/11312/2021, cited in the conclusion, is the EU guidance on analytical quality control and method validation for pesticide residue testing.

Pesticides screened and not detected

The screening list names each analyte with its limit of quantitation, mostly 0.01 mg/kg and as low as 0.003 mg/kg. The following pesticides, among those tea buyers ask about most often, were not detected in our sample:

  • Pyrethroids: bifenthrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, fenpropathrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, permethrin
  • Neonicotinoids: acetamiprid, dinotefuran, thiacloprid, thiamethoxam
  • Other insecticides and miticides: buprofezin, chlorpyrifos, diafenthiuron, fipronil, profenofos, pyridaben, tolfenpyrad, triazophos
  • Fungicides: carbendazim, hexaconazole
  • Older organochlorines: DDT, dicofol, endosulfan
  • Anthraquinone, a residue often checked in tea

The sample was analysed by EN 15662:2018, a European (CEN) standard multi-residue method (QuEChERS), on both LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS. Our SGS test report article explains how the method works and how to read the limits of detection and quantitation.

How to verify the report

  1. Note the report number AR-26-VD-278415-01 (printed at the top of page 1 and carried in the barcode beside it) and the sample code 743-2026-00279175.
  2. Send both to Eurofins Sac Ky Hai Dang (eurofins.vn, VN01_ASM_HCMC@eurofinsasia.com) and ask them to confirm the report.
  3. Check that the report reads GOO FARM TEA VIETNAM COMPANY LIMITED. For the full list of pesticides screened, ask us for the complete report.

What this report does and does not tell you

  • It shows results for one sample of green tea, tested in October 2026. It does not cover every grade we produce.
  • Grades from selected growing areas can be supplied with results as good as this report, or better.
  • For an EU contract, we can test the grade and lot you order at Eurofins or at a laboratory you name, against the MRLs in force at the time of shipment.

Questions buyers ask

What is an MRL? A maximum residue level is the highest amount of a pesticide legally allowed in or on a food. In the EU it is set per pesticide and per product under Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, and for tea it applies to the dried leaf.

Does one report cover every shipment? No. MRLs apply to every consignment, so a report shows what one sample contained. For a contract, ask us to test the lot you buy before it ships.

Do you have other test reports? Yes. Our SGS test report on green tea covers a 1,150-analyte pesticide screen, with five detected residues compared with US tolerances for tea.

Which teas can be tested? Any grade we supply: green tea, orthodox black tea, CTC or tea dust. See Vietnamese green tea grades and our tea specifications for the grades and STD codes.
